As the book begins, Bessie Markman, a young girl from Lithuania leaves home. In Hamburg, Germany she boards a ship for New York and what she imagines would be a better life.  Bessie was Linda Silbert’s Grandmother.

Ann Bress, Linda Silbert’s mother, interviewed Bessie Markman Dreizen. From these interviews, Dr. Silbert has created an historical novel based on Bessie’s life.

When she’s not writing a novel or children’s books and plays, Linda Silbert, PhD and her husband Alvin Silbert, EdD direct Strong Learning, Inc., an educational company which they founded. Strong Learning offers a full range of tutoring, educational testing, counseling, and test prep in New York and Massachusetts.

The Strong Learning Store offers books, workbooks, and educational games written and created by the Silberts. These learning resources can be used by teachers in the classroom as well as parents at home.

Their STRONG Learning Program, an educational breakthrough, promotes academic learning and emotional support in six key areas – Self-esteem, Trust, Responsibility, Options, Needs, and Goals. The program helps struggling students and academic stars alike achieve the academic success they seek.

The Silberts award-winning book, Why Bad Grades Happen to Good Kids, explains what parents need to know and what parents need to do.

Their next book, S + T + R + O + N  + G: Best Practices for 21st Century Teachers, will be available in January 2013.

The Silberts live in Mahopac, NY where they look forward to frequent visits with their two grown children and to spending lots of time with their twin grandsons.
